Stenden College students end Gambia visit by Gjbbi Sallak
Nine students and two lecturers from Stenden College in Holland recently ended a seven-week visit to the Christian Community of Latrikunda (CCLK).
During their stay in the country, the students visited different nursery schools in the Kanifing Municipality. They also conducted teaching sessions in various schools in the Greater Banjul Area for seven weeks.
They also donated school materials to some of the schools and held series of forums with students of the University of The Gambia and The Gambia College, where both sides shared their educational experience.
They visited the minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad; and the Catholic Bishop of Banjul, where they learnt many useful lessons. The students also met Lend-A-Hand Society, a youth advocacy group and had a series of meetings with the CCLK general and executive body as well as the CCLK Children Ministry to discuss matters of interest to both sides.
The visitors visited historical sites, like James Island and Kachikally Crocodile Pool and the Nature Reserve at the Senegalese border of Karang. They also attended a talent show organised by the Church of Blessed Sacrament youths and the annual musical concert of St. Therese's Senior Choir.
They spent the Tobaski with CCLK Muslim friends and relatives were surprised but delighted to see their Christian friends in African dresses just as the Muslims do on Tobaski Day.
During a brief review at the Senegambia Beach Hotel, Rihard Joe Mendy, chairman of CCLK expressed gratitude to the lecturers and all the students for choosing Gambia to run such an important programme. He encouraged them to make Gambia their second home.
The students for their part, expressed heartfelt gratitude to CCLK and all the Gambian people for their hospitality. They singed out Bernard, Charles, Tina, Maric and Pierre for giving them support and company throughout their visit.
